UF Health, a comprehensive academic health center in Gainesville, Florida, is seeking a dedicated Respiratory Therapist to provide high-quality adult respiratory care in a full-time role. As an integral member of our Healthcare & Medical Services team, you will deliver compassionate, evidence-based respiratory therapy to adult patients across a variety of acute and critical care settings, supporting UF Health’s mission of innovation, education, and patient-centered care.
In this position, you will perform thorough respiratory assessments, develop and implement respiratory care plans, and collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and other members of the interdisciplinary team. You will manage a full range of therapies, including oxygen administration, aerosol and bronchodilator treatments, airway clearance techniques, and noninvasive and invasive ventilator support. Your responsibilities will include monitoring patient responses to therapy, adjusting treatment parameters according to established protocols and provider orders, and promptly recognizing and escalating changes in patient status.
The Respiratory Therapist will be responsible for the safe setup, operation, and troubleshooting of respiratory care equipment such as mechanical ventilators, BiPAP/CPAP devices, high-flow nasal cannula systems, and oxygen delivery devices. You will obtain arterial blood gas samples, perform basic analysis and interpretation, and communicate findings to the care team to support timely clinical decision-making. Accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record is essential, as is adherence to infection prevention, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
You will participate in emergency responses, including rapid response and code events, providing airway management, ventilatory support, and other life-sustaining interventions as needed. Education is also a key component of this role: you will provide clear instruction to patients and families on respiratory conditions, use of equipment, medication delivery, and home-care considerations to support safe transitions of care and promote optimal outcomes.
Working at UF Health means practicing in a collaborative, inclusive environment that values diversity, continuous improvement, and professional growth. Respiratory Therapists are encouraged to engage in ongoing education, specialty training, and quality-improvement initiatives. You will have the opportunity to contribute to innovative practices and to learn from leading clinicians, educators, and researchers in a large academic medical center.
The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, patient-focused professional who communicates effectively, manages time well in a fast-paced hospital environment, and is comfortable caring for adults with complex cardiopulmonary needs. UF Health offers a supportive culture that promotes teamwork, continuous learning, and career development, along with a competitive compensation and benefits package that supports your health, well-being, and long-term goals.
